Continental Event and Sports Management Group LLC is the rebirth of one of the leading race production teams in the US. Robert Pozo, founder of Continental Event and Sports Management Group, began his race production career in 1997 with wife Gaby Pozo with their first venture, Swim Bike Run, Inc. What started as a small business built on the passion of the sport turned into a race production career featuring triathlons, duathlons and 5K runs in the South Florida area. After producing more than 85 events, the Pozos teamed up with local marketing genius, Frankie Ruiz to stage the first ever ING Miami Marathon®. The 2003 event surprised the running world by launching its first ever event with a fortune 500 title sponsor and 5,000 runners. This event has grown in the last 8 years to hold a weekend of events hosting 22,000 runners and was just named as a top 10 running event by USA Today. Pozo’s latest strike of genius has been the 13.1 Marathon Series™: a series of half marathon events thought-out the country celebrating the most popular distance of all, the half marathon. And this series inspired him to look toward the next big thing: a series of half marathon event celebrating our proud heritage in the Southern region of the US. Continental Event and Sports draws on this vision to create world class half-marathons throughout Southern United States. Mr. Pozo is a founder and was the hands-on Race Director of the ING Miami Marathon for the first 6 years of the event. After selling his Company to market leader, US Road Sports and Entertainment Group, Mr. Pozo joined the US Road Sports team as its VP of Business Development and Executive Race Director providing industry expertise when acquiring events as well as when creating them. Robert’s operational and financial background allows for a diverse skill-set used in analyzing possible ventures or mergers/acquisitions. Mr. Pozo was the founder and President of Swim-Bike-Run, Inc. producing cycling, running, duathlon, and triathlon events to South Florida. SBR created the ever-popular Key Biscayne Triathlon Series, as well as the Festina Time Trial Series, among others. The knowledge gained from SBR soon made Mr. Pozo the odds on choice to spearhead the inaugural Miami Marathon as the President and Race Director of PR Racing, Inc. As of 2000, Miami was one of the only large US cities without a marathon. That year, Mr. Pozo led the effort to secure a title sponsor and lead the event to a very successful race as well as assuring its place as a staple in the South Florida events calendar, as well as the national running calendar. He continued to help build PR Racing, Inc. becoming the premiere event company in South While Mr. Pozo produced races in Florida, he held positions with other event production companies throughout the US allowing him to work and offer his expertise to large and small races across the country as well as national and world championships. The culmination of this came in 2007 and 2008 when Mr. Pozo secured Pan American and Olympic Trials, respectively, for Racewalking in Miami. Mr..Pozo has produced or helped produce over 350 events throughout the United States as well as worked with all groups from for-profit to charities to municipal entities thus gaining vast knowledge in this sector.  Event management was a natural fit for this triathlete, cyclist and runner. As a 3-time member of the US Duathlon and Triathlon Team competing at the World Championships, Mr. Pozo gained plenty of experience regarding how events were created throughout the US and the world. As 8 time track cycling State Champion, Mr. Pozo honed his skills as an athlete but also saw events through the eyes of participants and the audience, thus drawing from that now when creating or modifying events. Still, the largest of all sporting events eluded him until 2004 when, as a USA Triathlon certified coach he coached one of only 3 US male triathlon participants to the Athens Olympic Games. Events and event production is only half of the package, one must have a solid financial background as well. Robert Pozo graduated from Florida International University with a B.A. and Masters degrees in Accounting in 1991 and 1993, respectively. He worked for 4 years for KPMG Peat Marwick as an auditor specializing in international banks, Edge Acts, Agencies and leisure companies. Soon after this Robert worked for the international company Atwoods, LC at the Internal Auditor Manager capacity before working as an internal auditor at the University of Miami. Soon after this, Mr. Pozo received his Masters Exercise and Sport Management specializing in Sports Management from UM. Mr. Pozo is an avid runner and cyclist who enjoys hiking and trekking as well, just recently hiking the Napali Coast in Kaui. Florida and one of the strongest in the Southeast US.  Read More →
